Twenty years ago, something extraordinary happened at CERN in Geneva, something that would forever change the way people communicate. On 13 March 1989, the British researcher Timothy John Berners-Lee, Tim for his friends, entered the room of his superior Mike Sendall and handed him a project on information management. The study showed how the data could be easily transferred over the Internet through the 'hypertext': the system, now familiar, which allows us to 'point' and click some text to another page of information on the 'large network' giving the green light to a project that would have changed contemporary history. The following year, with Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau, co-author and first "navigator" of the network, was born a revolutionary system of universal connection, known as the World Wide Web (W3) that would allow everyone, from the scientist's most Advanced research laboratory at home, to connect to exchange messages, looking for any kind of information and links, live, from anywhere in the world at low cost. And CERN is the first website appeared in the world, at which still exists, info.cern.ch.. Today, March 13, after twenty years of "honorable service" along with the Web celebrates its inventor, scientists at CERN and its loyal fans around the world, one of his most important anniversaries. The revolution in communication triggered by W3 coincided with an equal number of global events: a few months before the reunification of Germany, then the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope and the release of Nelson Mandela. Three events, such as W3 opened new horizons of freedom and communication. The early interest of Berners-Lee for computer and telecommunications world of Berners-Lee would soon open new perspectives. In 1976 at age 21, after graduation, he built his first computer. He worked quickly in the telecommunications sector and soon arrived at CERN, as a consultant for software engineering. Even for the 'Grid', CERN, has been the driving force that led to its implementation, and already five or six years is used for the calculation of its huge potential, even in finance, meteorology, medical science and biological properties.
